Extraordinary claims. Ordinary investigations.

The Alien Interview

Almost three minutes of video, known (and sold) as the “Alien Interview”, allegedly smuggled out of Area 51 by an anonymous source who refers to himself as “Victor”. As you will remember, anonymous source means, a priori, hoax.

It first came to light on the Art Bell radio show on 13th March, 1997 when ufologist Sean David Morton was interviewed. Morton claimed the interrogation was fairly recent, sometime in 1996, and that Bob Dean apparently cried at the advanced screening of the film.

As the video is still being milked, more than ten years later, it’s unlikely we will know who the hoaxers were too soon. We hope they will eventually come clean – hey, hoaxers, you may profit from the revelation too, as Santilli did!

Even believers have a hard time believing it, and two very interesting indications of hoax were discussed around. One claimed that “Victor” was none other than Bob Dean himself. Perhaps, perhaps not. I don’t think a clear conclusion can be drawn.

The other was this image:

It looks like the interrogated alien, but with much more detail. Unfortunately, here too, no definite match can be drawn because the original alien interview was of so poor quality. And then, there’s this:

Can you see how the man’s hands are mangled? It’s a terrible Photoshop job. Even the alien puppet could be a digital creation, made from the original video to portray a backstage photo.

Or not. This “backstage” image shows the alien with a lot more detail and definition. It could have been a hoaxed hoax, with texture added over, but if they did such a terrible job with the man’s hands, would they be so good in creating the fake fake alien?

My bet is that’s indeed an actual photo of the puppet used in the Alien Interview, but why would they Photoshop a man in there? In any event, it’s just a bet.

If you know from where this image came from, or obviously, more details about the “Alien Interview”, do send your comments or a private email. [via ATS]

UPDATE 04/17/2011: Over in the comments below, Bayne identified the prop as coming from an episode of “Dark Skies”. And a recent thread in ATS, in a post by “freelance_zenarchist” nailed it without a doub.

So, we’re back to where we were regarding the Alien Interview video, as this backstage prop has no relation whatsoever to it. Why the hands of the Dark Skies artist seem mangled is yet another mystery to me.

Did anyone else pick up the disconnect between the need for bio-containment to protect the alien from microbes and the exposed skin of the medical staff?

Could you be a little more specific about the mangled hands? All I can see is the third and fourth fingers on the man’s right hand look mangled at first glance but are actually pretty realistically positioned if that hand is holding, between thumb and first and second fingers, a shaft that’s being poked in the ‘alien’s’ mouth.

I have no doubt this is yet another hoax, but not all hoaxes involve Photoshop.

I agree it doesn’t look photoshopped. It looks like JPEG compression artefacts to me. But as for the first response, I also agree: and furthermore, ff the alien is so sensitive to human microbes, should people really be shoving their fingers in its mouth as in the photo???

The eyes are much “rounder” in the Alien Interview than in the backstage photo. Please tell us where you found the backstage photo. I seem to recall having seen this photo in a UFO magazine from some years ago. Perhaps the scanning of the magazine photo caused the distortion?

I first saw it in a UFO discussion group. The sender told he found it in a webpage about special effects, but didn’t tell what page it was.

On the link to the ATS forum discussion, there’s another link to the image (though it’s broken, it seems).

I don’t know if the backstage photo is actually related to the Alien Interview, as I wrote. My bet is that it is, but the man was probably photoshopped in. I don’t think his hands were distorted by compression artifacts, those look more like he was badly cutout from another image.

that’s funny… the google ads show a link to this site, http://www.thewaytohappiness.org , which stinks scientology pretty bad.

Great blog, keep up the fantastic work!

Pick up a pencil or other long object and hold it between your thumb and first and second fingers so that it’s parallel with the fingers, as the guy in the picture’s doing. I think you’ll find that your third and fourth fingers naturally tuck under the second finger and give the same appearance of being cut off that the ‘mangled’ hand does.

Looks to me like a different alien. The prop one looks to me like the ones from Dark Skies. The weird chest detail fits the oddities they threw in to spice up their otherwise conventional Grey design and the head proportions look different to me.

That said the interview one while it’s facial movements around the eyes look great, the body and head moves like a puppet with someones hand inside the head. So i wouldn’t be surprised if both images are hoaxes. But i don’t think the second image is the prop from the first.

Ok so i found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwrQFtqWsm4 and now I’m certain that the prop photo is definately of the dark skies alien and not the alien interview!

The odd mouth, the neck shoulders and ribcage, the proportions of the head all look to me closer to the footage on dark skies than on the alien interview.

  10. Bayne November 1st, 2010 2:20 am

Oh, does everyone think this chest looks familiar?

I think that’s case closed now as to the origin of this prop photo.

    It’s the Dark Skies alien.

Bayne I hope you saved that image and uploaded it somewhere else for people to see, your link is dead!

well did anyone noticed that the alien in the interwiew has a nose but the puppet they say it is not?

debunk fail if you ask me. wouldn’t even call it a decent attempt

I have to say that this puppet has a completely different body/torso than that of the being in the interview footage. You get a clear shot of the body when the medical staff is shining the flashlight. There is no resemblance. The forehead is completely different looking as well, and the coloring is off. Not sure if I am missing a point here, but… the images are definitely not representative of the alien in the interview. Also, to address another posting, medical staff enter sterile surgery environments all day every day. They sterilize themselves before entering. IN the footage, they are the only ones allowed in the area with the being – so, I don’t see the issue with that. Hmm… some pretty weak arguments against the validity of the footage imo.

Forehead is different between the puppet and the alien in the interview…… not the same, in the video has one cranial ridge running down the centre of the head…

  16. Roger January 5th, 2013 6:24 am

What is this, this article is fake not the interview. The puppet you are showing us is completely different from the interview. Look at the forhead brain area, the one in the video has a much larger rounder brain. It also have a nose and smoother chest area than the one in the photo. The backstage photo is fake.

If the alien interview entity is indeed a puppet it is certainly not the same puppet as the “backstage” puppet or the prop used in Dark Skies because the glabella (area between the eyes and above the nose in humans) on the interview entity and the glabella on the backstage prop and on the Dark Skies prop are a different shape, the interview alien’s being more angular and larger. What would correspond to the zygomatic or malar bone (cheekbones / lower section of the eye sockets) in humans is also more angular and more definitive in structure on the interview entity. The ramus and body of the mandible (peripheries of the “jawbone”) on the interview alien also display sharper bone features around the mandibular notch, and the inferior and posterior borders respectively, the other two props displaying smoother, rounder, more uniform corresponding facial physique.
