Actually, it’s very easy to follow the ball, so long as its always placed under the ‘ringer’ cup: because, if you look carefully, you’ll notice the inverted base of the ‘ringer’ cup isn’t being illuminated by the overhead lights in quite the same way the other cups are – it’s base is clearly more overshadowed and, by inference, positioned less horizontally – more at an angle to the light source – than the other cups are.
