Fake Plastic Aliens… attack in Lahore, Pakistan
“A four inch Alien species appear to be a female [sic] turned up in Pakistan accidently. While repairing an old house, they found an Alien walking around. The children took it as a harmful animal & stoned it then the Alien fell down helpless & motionless. Then they put her in bottle after that they throw her on very hot bricks that’s where she got the skin burns. This news spread like a wild fire, too many people came in flocks to see her ;out of concern of disturbance locals buried her in hole. People have demanded an investigation & autopsy now.” [via BoingBoing]
Only thing is, as pointed by “eeasynow”, that’s actually a small plastic toy.
The case is reminiscent of the recent brouhaha over another plastic toy in Qatar.
Do you think it’s a coincidence these countries have no freedom of press? I don’t. Though freedom of speech allows any wild story to circulate, it also allows for a quick and open critical evaluation. I’m afraid people in Qatar or Pakistan don’t know, and perhaps will never know they were terrorized (by the media, at least) with fake plastic toys.

No freedom of the press? Actually, the media in Pakistan are one of the most outspoken in South Asia. Sure there are some sensitive topics e.g. the security agencies, religion but in no way can it be described as suppressed.

Extraordinarily lame rubber alien hoax: http://forgetomori.com/2009/skepticism/fake-plastic-aliens-attack-in-lahore-pakistan/
Anyone still need more reasons why the scientific world doesn’t take this stuff seriously?
I liked your article, and yeah I never believed these were real. But what’s with “Do you think it’s a coincidence these countries have no freedom of press? I don’t.”
Who said Pakistan doesn’t have freedom of press? Should’ve researched more man. The media here is so outspoken and free that sometimes the government is forced to have TALKS with them, lol.
